Hijab and Shoulders

As the political climate grows more divisive and the rhetoric around Muslim Americans, especially Muslim women who choose to wear hijab, worsens, the misconceptions and negative stigma around this minority group increases. In Hijab and Shoulders, I aim to dispel the offensive stereotypes of hijab-wearers and misconceptions using satirical photography.  I answered six of the most frequently asked questions to women in hijab. These queries can stem from ignorance or genuine curiosity or both. No matter what their origin, these inquiries need to be answered. Through these six quirky images, I hope to educate the world and put an end to some of these awkward questions I receive on a daily basis.

"Do you shower with that on?"

"Do you sleep with that on?"

"Are you oppressed at home?"

"Do YOU choose the color of your scarf based on your mood?"

"Do you have like a million scarves?"
