Hijrah- Safe and sound in washington

In the aftermath of September 11, American Muslims quickly  became a target for hatred and surveillance. To counter feelings of fear, my local mosque and community center like many across the country created a safe space that felt like a second home. Through these images, I wanted to portray what it truly means to be a Muslim in America. Like many others, we celebrate, we grieve and we pray, keeping us unified as one community. I face several struggles as I plan to capture a majority immigrant community who is typically weary of others entering their space. As a mosque-goer myself, I hope to be able to gain their trust as they tell me their stories.
