Inheriting An Ancient Dream

2019 marks thirty years since my mother arrived in this country. As a major muse and inspiration, my mother’s immigrant story is my project’s subject. These photos, showcasing my mother’s attempt at safeguarding her Lebanese heritage, were all taken in Sidon, Lebanon where my mother was born and raised. While photographing her city I was aware of the fragility she feels every time she leaves for America. I captured the places and traditions that mean the most to her. In doing so I made her memories more concrete. I felt these images would help calm her fears that what is most valuable to her is always evanescent.
